I made this after the 2016 election, when it felt like the whole world (or at least New York City) reeled in silent shock. The video above is an excerpt from a live, improvisational video manipulation. I drew from archival footage of the civil rights riots of the 1960's, contemporary stock footage of american flags, and some surreal underwater video I shot in one of the most tranquil, healing places I know: the kettle ponds of Cape Cod.

The work is nonlinear; it has repeating elements, but it’s not a fixed loop. This shifting, unstable form seemed the only way to address what now seems like a G-rated preview but at the time felt like the ground falling away beneath us.
