Stochasm cycles randomly through the English phonemes, its behavior determined by ambient electrical current in the air and the loudness of ambient noise – if people are talking around it, it quiets down until it is once again the only speaker.
it’s called implode / explode – it was written for an animation class assignment (to create a non-linear, code-based, interactive animation).
enjoy!
hello world! much is new:
1. We got a provisional grant from NYU Green Grants to begin work on the Bellflower project! Prototyping to begin soon…
2. Writer Naomi Krupitsky Wernham and Circus Artist Sebastian Kann both have shiny new websites =)
3. Void design is born, and can be seen in its infancy at voidvoid.net.
4. I am now part of a fantastic shared studio with CW&T and Adam Golinczak. This is exciting.
5. If you want to stare at your screen while it changes color, click here.
while working on a project totally unrelated to anything, i came up with this. it’s a generative animation – click anywhere to spawn a new space termite, hit space to start over. enjoy!

Seventeen-year-old Jeremy is having a rough senior year as an unwilling prisoner of the parochial school system. His dad’s a jerk, his mom’s oblivious, and he’s failing Principles of Catholicism, which he needs to pass in order to graduate. In order to cope, he turns to his imaginary (and only) friend, a seventeen year old version of Jesus, who is stuck with a stepfather he hates, a Dad he only sees on the weekends, and the fate of all humanity resting on his shoulders, making him the only kid with a more screwed up adolescence than Jeremy. But Jesus can’t help Jeremy graduate high school, so Jeremy enlists the services of Cara, the most pious girl in school to help him study for the final—and maybe earn her sainthood in the process.
The website for the Lost Shores is done! check it out here.
Gabriella Levine and I just submitted our proposal for this project to the NYU green grant people – fingers crossed. Here’s the project abstract, plus drawings.
Project Abstract:
The Bellflower Project will showcase the potential of sustainable energy sources. By engaging the public in a creative, non-institutional way, we are hoping to show (not tell) the NYU and larger community the benefits of energy harvesting. The Bellflower is a public kinetic sculpture that runs on solar and possibly wind power. The sculpture itself biomimetically recreates an opening flower – five petals will slowly open as they collect solar energy, revealing a spiral of musical bars (like large xylophone bars). As the sculpture gathers energy, the bars begin to play, creating unique melodies and chords that vary depending on weather conditions. Ideally, the project would be embedded in an urban agriculture garden, promoting biodiversity while demonstrating the power of sustainable energy harvesting. Our goal is to aesthetically improve the quotidian life of the community, as well as potentially educating the public about environmentally responsible power consumption.
the lost shores (the band’s myspace) are getting a real website, and i’m making it.
for a little taste of the animation: see the test page
